We’re fast approaching exam time again and I’m sure some of you reading this will have children who are very nervous about the prospect of sitting them. Or maybe you’ve come across this post because you’re a teen who is currently struggling with exam anxiety.

Exam stress is one of the things I see a lot around this time every year, with lots of students concerned that they won’t do as well as they had hoped. A few nerves can help exam performance but when they become overwhelming, it can have a devastating effect and throw every bit of preparation out of the window. Anxiety and panic can ultimately lead to performance anxiety and no matter how much groundwork has been laid in the run-up to the exam, mindset can be the fine line between success and failure.

Exam anxiety can also encourage negative self perceptions and set up a self fulfilling prophecy around failure. Fear of failure is often a key factor in exam anxiety and it can lead to a vicious circle that makes this more likely.
