Therapy to Help Stop Smoking
“Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality in the UK.”
British Medical Association.
The anti smoking session I offer is a "one off" session and designed to support you to leave a non smoker.
Utilising current Neuroscience research and evidence I will give you a detailed explanation of how the brain works why it encourages such a dangerous habit and what you can do to take control. I also cover why your mind encourages you to think its good for stress etc when we know from science, for example, that smokers are 80% more likely to experience anxiety and/or depression-so definitely not helpful with stress!
Using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and positive suggestions you'll enjoy a relaxing session to support your decision to stop smoking and make positive changes.
With regard to the effectiveness - whilst I haven’t conducted personal research, where I trained, one of the leading UK Hypnotherapy Clinics & Training Schools, The Clifton Practice, has undertaken a 2 year research study into the effectiveness of the anti smoking sessions we offer, the results of which indicated that a high percentage of clients who attended for anti-smoking stopped smoking and maintained their non smoking status (over 90%); if you are interested in the research I could provide you with the website address.
A top up session is available however it's rarely required.
Figures show that approximately 114,000 people in the UK die from smoking related diseases every year. Smoking not only affects the health of the individual who smokes, but the health of anyone else who breaths in the smoke around them (known as passive smoking).
If you are a smoker, giving up the habit is the greatest single step you can do to improve your health, benefits of stopping begin straight away. You reduce your risk of getting serious disease no matter what age you give up. However, the sooner you stop smoking, the greater the reduction in your risk. Within 10 to15 years of giving up smoking, an ex-smoker will only be slightly more likely to develop lung cancer than a non-smoker.
Current research using 6000 smokers (published in the Journal of Applied Psychology), showed that hypnosis, to use the same terminology as the quit counsellor, was three times more effective than Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
Hypnotherapy is a fast, effective and powerful tool for the permanent eradication of unwanted habits and smoking is probably the easiest. The physical addiction is less than 10%; the rest is all in the mind, which can of course be re-educated.
Using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy the therapist guides the client into a relaxed state enabling direct access to their subconscious mind. This is where our instinctive behaviour patterns and natural reactions are formed. Using positive suggestion and imagery the therapist is able to focus on the behaviours that the client wishes to change. And so long as you have a genuine desire to quit, you leave the clinic a non-smoker for good, with no cravings.
